CBD is a beneficial cannabinoid that can treat pain, inflammation in the body, anxiety symptoms and much more. CBD is legal on a federal level when it contains less than 0.3% THC. That means you won’t experience psychoactive effects when you take it. Regardless of what you’re taking CBD for, you want to make sure that you’re taking a safe and pure product that will help you. You should be paying attention to cultivation methods, added ingredients and extraction methods. Extraction methods are something many people neglect to consider, but these methods can greatly impact the final product.

Olive Oil

With the olive-oil extraction method, the raw plant material must be heated to a temperature of 248 degrees Fahrenheit for 60 minutes. This decarboxylation method is used to activate the chemicals of the cannabis plant. Once this has been done, the heated plant material can be added to an olive oil solution. It is then heated to a temperature of 212 degrees Fahrenheit for somewhere between one and two hours. This extracts the cannabinoids. They can be used to create a variety of CBD products like oil, capsules, edibles and topical creams.

CO2

Using CO2 to extract CBD oil is the cleanest extraction method. It’s often used within a closed-loop extractor for a number of food products as well. You begin with liquid CO2 and raise its temperature up with the use of a compressor and heater. When you pass the CO2 through cannabis, you can pull the CBD out of the plant. The essential oils that are removed are called terpenes.

Chemical Extraction

The chemical extraction method that is used to obtain CBD isn’t the most preferred method for the consumer. It’s a cheap way to extract CBD, but the chemicals that are used are not safe for the human body. It is inevitable that there will be chemicals left behind. If you can, you’ll want to stay away from CBD that has been produced using chemical extraction.

It’s a good idea to spend some time researching the CBD that you plan to purchase and use regularly. Not all CBD is created the same, but most CBD is extremely safe to take. Make sure that you choose a brand of product that provides you with the potency and the purity that you’re looking for. A reputable brand should tell customers upfront about the methods they use for extraction and the other ingredients that are included in their product.
